The Preliminary Cosmic Di use - Ray Spectrum from 800 keV to 30 MeV Measured with COMPTELS

چکیده
We report a preliminary Cosmic Diiuse-ray (CDG) spectrum from 800 keV to 30 MeV obtained with the COMPTEL instrument, the Imaging Compton Telescope on-board the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. The spectrum is constructed by measuring the count rate of rays from high galactic latitudes and rst extrapolating the rate to a zero cosmic-ray ux environment to eliminate the prompt background. The prompt background is produced primarily by the interactions of protons and neutrons with the spacecraft. Second, this rate is then corrected for the eeects of delayed internal radioactivity to arrive at the-ray count rate due to the CDG radiation. The preliminary measurements of the CDG ux in the 2{10 MeV range is 5{10 times lower than earlier reports. The 2{30 MeV ux is consistent with power-law extrap-olations from lower and higher energies. The preliminary measurements show no evidence of a `MeV bump' above 2 MeV. The bump, if present, is restricted to energies less than 2 MeV.

Diffuse Galactic Soft Gamma-Ray Emission
The Galactic diffuse soft gamma-ray (30-800 keV) emission has been measured from the Galactic Center by the HIREGS balloon-borne germanium spectrometer to determine the spectral characteristics and origin of the emission. The resulting Galactic diffuse continuum is found to agree well with a single power-law (plus positronium) over the entire energy range, consistent with RXTE and COMPTEL/CGRO ...

The spectrum of the diffuse isotropic component of cosmic X-rays over the 13–180 keV range was determined by the UCSD/MIT Hard X-Ray and Gamma-Ray instrument (HEAO A4) on the High Energy Astronomical Observatory–1 (HEAO–1). The instrument consists of a complex of actively shielded and collimated scintillation counters, including the Low Energy Detector set from which the data reported here were...

متن کاملContributions of GRBs and Cen A-like RadioGalaxies to the Cosmic Gamma-ray Background
The contribution to the cosmic diffuse gamma-ray background (CGB) from Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) is studied in the 40 keV 2 MeV regime. We use High Energy Resolution (HER) data from the Burst And Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) aboard the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory (CGRO) to generate a GRB template spectrum. Although the GRB contribution to the CGB is generally small, in comparison to the ...
متن کاملDiffuse Gamma - Ray Emission
The all-sky surveys in γ-rays by the imaging Compton telescope (COMPTEL) and the Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) on board the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory for the first time allows detailed studies of the extragalactic diffuse emission at γ-ray energies greater 1 MeV. A preliminary analysis of COMPTEL data indicates a significant decrease in the level of the derived cosmic dif...
